[nobody responds; The Joker walks around the room pointing with his shotgun at everyone]
The Joker: You know where Harvey is? You know who he is?
[grabs a man's face]
The Joker: You know where I can find Harvey? I need to talk to him about something. Just something, a little.
[turns the man's face away]
The Joker: No...
The Joker: You just couldn't let me go could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptible aren't you? You won't kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness, and I won't kill you, because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever.
The Joker: [to Det. Stephens] Do you wanna know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can't savor all the... little... emotions. In... you see, in their last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way, I know your friends better than you ever did. Would you like to know which of them were cowards?
Gambol: Give me one reason why I shouldn't have my boy here rip your head off.
The Joker: How about a magic trick?
The Joker: I'm gonna make this pencil... disappear.
The Joker: Ta-daa! It's... gone!
Gambol: You're crazy.
The Joker: No, I'm not. No...I'm *not.*
Joker: Those mob fools want you gone so they can get back to the way things were. But I know the truth. There's no going back. You've changed things forever.
Batman: Then why'd you wanna kill me?
Joker: [laughs hysterically] I don't wanna kill you! What would I do without you? Go back to ripping off mob dealers? No. No no. You you complete me.
Batman: You're garbage who kills for money.
Joker: Don't talk like one of them, you're not! Even if you'd like to be. To them, you're just a freak like me! They need you right now. When they don't they'll cast you out. Like a leper. See, their morals, their code: it's a bad joke. They're dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be. I'll show you. When the chips are down, these, uh civilized people, they'll eat each other. See, I'm not a monster; I'm just ahead of the curve.
