It's been nearly two years since the Rachel and Aiden moved to Astoria, Oregon to start over. With the problem with the evil Samara now resolved, Rachel has nearly forgotten what has happened, and is enjoying living in a small community on the Oregon Coast.
One day, there are some signs that something may be up again. As Editor of a small newspaper, she sees stories in other parts of the country - all the video tapes are gone, or were they ? Aidan seems more moody than before, and her curiosity begins again. No sooner than this, there are some odd occurances in Astoria, and with Aiden as well.
The only way to be sure is to take a trip to the Morgan Ranch, one more time, to see. Upon arriving there, she notices that the ranch was leveled and a combination housing subdivision and a small commercial park was built. There seems to be no record of exactly where the well was, with all of the identifying landmarks gone. After more odd occurances with Aiden, on this trip, they soon decide that the well was built-over, and the evil Samara is free once more ...
Returning to Astoria, more odd happenings are afoot, and Rachel decides that a new course of action needs to be taken. There is only one paranormal/ghost expert she can find who has dealt with similar occurances, and he now lives in Sedona, Arizona.
